Basic Beekeeping - Beginner course
Basic Beekeeping Course 2022
Thank you for showing an interest in our 2022 Beginners Course held which will be over the weekend of 26th to 27th March 2022.
PRACTICAL SESSION There will be an additional practical session to be arranged at our Hibaldstow training apiary.
VENUE Central Community Centre, 26, Lindum Street, Scunthorpe. DN15 6QU. From 9am to 4.30pm on both days.
COST is £75.00 which includes liquid refreshments. The centre does have a café but you might wish to bring along a packed lunch.
The course is intended to equip you with enough information and skills to enable you to feel confident in entering the fascinating world of beekeeping and will be limited to twelve students. It will follow the programme produced by the BBKA (British Beekeepers Association) and will be supplemented with practical tasks, various speakers and an additional practical session with live bees at our training apiary where you will be provided with suitable protective clothing.
Roger Britt and myself will lead the course assisted by Jacob Stillyard, Teresa Graham, Mick Grimbleby and Ian Maughan. Roger and I have been keeping bees for about ten years. We both remember clearly what it was like to start beekeeping.
Our District training apiary is based at Hibaldstow Airfield.
After the course has finished you will be invited to attend our weekly inspections held at the apiary throughout the Spring and Summer.
You will be introduced to our District and the different support mechanisms and associations that will support you along the way. We are a District within the Lincolnshire Beekeepers Association and in turn affiliated to the national British Beekeepers Association. We also have a District website: http://www.northlincsbeekeepers.org.uk/ and a group Facebook page: www.facebook.com/groups/northlincsbeekeepers. You will also be welcome to attend our District meetings which are held monthly at Broughton Village Hall. Associate membership of our District is included in the course fee.
All materials will be provided apart from a small pin hammer which will be required for the frame construction lesson.
There is some parking at the centre or the multi storey car park which is adjacent.
Best wishes, Kevin Seddon
